LEPAUTRE, Antoine, 1614 - 1691

He was first architect to the King. He was born in Paris, in 1614. He built two wings of the Chateau de St Cloud. He was appointed by Madame de Montespar to build the Chateau de Clogny, but Mansart's drawings were preferred to his. The sorrow he suffered from this failure shortened his life. His architectural works were published in 1652 and re-published in 1854.
