DORIGNY (Nicola)
Painter - Engraver - Drawer Paris 1652-1746

He was the second son of Michel DORIGNY, who taught him his first art lessons. He started as a painter, but soon he devoted himself entirely to engraving. He went to study in Rome and stayed there for 28 years. Later on, King Charles II of England asked him to reproduce, in prints, all of Raphael's sketches that had been kept at HAMPTON COURT. He devoted 15 years to this task, working in London. He was admitted to the French Academy in 1725.
