Bloch
BLOCK Marc-Eliozer, 1723-1799
German naturalist and physician.
At the age of 20, he was still completely ignorant; he learned German from a Hamburg surgeon, Latin from a Bohemian Catholic and then devoted himself to fervent study. He went to Berlin to learn Anatomy and Natural Sciences, he was awarded the degree of doctor in Frankfurt and returned to the capital of Prussia to practice. This distinguished scholar was a member of the Society of Nature Friends, where he gained a considerable reputation. His magnificent HISTORY OF FISH, Berlin 1785, is considered one of the most remarkable works on the subject ever published.
