Auden Aerd (Robert VAN)

AUDEN AERD (Robert VAN)
Painter, line-engraver and burin-engraver. Gaud 1663-1743.

Flemish School. After having worked with Mierlrop and Hans Van Cleef, he went to Rome and worked under the guidance of Carlo Maratta. For his own amusement, Auden Aerd had already made some sketches of prints; he took the opportunity and showed them to his teacher, and Maratta was so excited about them that he hired his pupil to devote himself to this genre. Auden Aerd followed the advice and, under the guidance of his master, he became a reputed engraver. Auden Aerd made reproductions particularly after paintings, sculptures and portraits.
